1. What materials do I need?

Cotton fabric (please make sure it is a tight weave, if you can see through it it’s too thin), thread, scissors or rotary cutter and mat, sewing machine or needle.

2. What if I have materials to donate or I need materials?

If you have materials to donate, please see our Donation Location page.  If you are unable to get to a location, please check our our awesome volunteers on our CONTACT US for a list of volunteers designated for pick up.  For safety reasons, please only contact these people about pick-ups.

If you need material, please post on our FB Page: Masked Warriors Project.

3. Where can I find patterns?

Please visit our Make a Mask page for instructions and patterns.

4. What do I do with the masks once I have them finished?

Check out our Drop of Location Page for bins where you can drop off finished masks.  If you are unable to get to a bin, please post on our FB Page, Masked Warriors and someone may be able to pick them up.

5. Should I prewash my fabric?

Yes, you want to prewash any fabric, but DO NOT use any fabric softener. If you have unscented detergents that is best. Please also be sure to put the fabric in the dryer to preshrink it. Again, DO NOT use any dryer sheets or fabric softeners.

6. Should I include a filter?

We are confirming what materials are acceptable for filters. In the meantime, we suggest that your mask include a pocket for the filter so that one can be added in the future.

7. Can I ask for masks for personal use or to give to friends?

This group is specifically for creating masks to be donated to Nyack and Good Samaritan Hospitals.

8. Should I use elastic?

Many healthcare providers have said that the elastic is irritating and doesn’t hold up to the intense washing these masks are put through. The preference is to use strings that can be tied.

9. Should there be wire in the nose area?

If you have wire to be added that is preferable, but if you don’t we are still happy to have you make a mask without it.

9. I have my own homemade face mask.  How do I clean it?

Please see the CDC guidelines for properly sanitizing your facemask HERE.  Do not microwave your mask to sanitize.
